It looks like the EA/DICE team is staying true to it’s word, and delivering on their promise to bring Battlefield Heroes back on board in 2009. As we reported back in November, instead of rushing a sub par product to market, EA and Swedish developers DICE, decided to issue a ‘hold your fire’ order to all active Battlefield Heroes players and take a peak under the hood to find out what that rattle was all about.
Well apparently the down time in the shop has ended, and EA has opened the closed beta yet again. To get into the closed beta, you’ll need to log into (or create) an EA account and then fill in the signup form. According to the Battlefield Heroes site, if you already signed up to join the first beta, which closed on November 14th, there’s no need to sign up again, as they’ll be working their way through the first list of beta signups and then moving on into this round. Given the massive internal revamp, Battlefield Heroes should be moving into a ‘stress testing’ phase sooner or later, so your chances of getting into the beta are quite high, even if you’ve not previously applied. The site does not reveal when Battlefield Heroes will be up and running again, but we’ll surely update the minute the first shot is fired.
Remember, EA’s got a lot riding on Battlefield Heroes, as this is their first attempt at a free-to-play, microtransactions based title, which traditionally carries weight in the Asian market. As I stated in an earlier article, it’s a wise move by both EA and DICE to hold their fire until all the kinks can be worked out. For me personally, Battlefield Heroes was one of the highlights of the Leipzig GDC, albeit stuffed in a corner way in the back, and a bit tricky to find if you didn’t know it was there.
